Excursion destinations around the Ferienhuus Eiderente: the Eidersperrwerk barrage, Katinger Watt, NABU information centre, St. Peter-Ording, Büsum, Tönning and Friedrichstadt.

Eidersperrwerk: A storm-surge barrier from 1973 with information boards; occasional guided tours.

Katinger Watt: Bird sanctuary; easy to walk, parking to the north of the barrage.

NABU information centre: Behind the barrage (open seasonally).

St. Peter-Ording: The districts of Bad (tourist centre) & Dorf (cosy, amber museum). The Westküstenpark (close to the animals, family-friendly) lies between the ARAL station and the edge of town.

Büsum: Pedestrian zone, harbour, fresh/smoked fish, boat trips (e.g. to Heligoland, weather-dependent).

Tönning: Old town, historic harbour, fish to buy at the harbour (during Advent: the illuminated Packhaus warehouse).

Friedrichstadt: The “Dutch town” on the Eider & Treene rivers – canal boat trips and market square.
