Further excursions

Day trips from the Ferienhuus Eiderente: the Kiel Canal with Brunsbüttel and Rendsburg, Kiel, Schleswig-Haithabu, Husum and Sylt by train from Niebüll.

Kiel Canal (Nord-Ostsee-Kanal): Lock complexes (e.g. Brunsbüttel) with ship-greeting; ferries across the canal run free of charge.

Rendsburg: Railway high bridge with a transporter (gondola) ferry (subject to maintenance status) and a pedestrian bridge.

Kiel: Harbour facilities, locks towards the Baltic Sea.

Schleswig / Haithabu: Viking museum & reconstructed village – worthwhile for children & adults alike.

Husum: The “grey town by the sea” with maritime flair.

Sylt: As a day trip, best without a car – park in Niebüll and travel by train (a family ticket may be worth it).
